LONDON/HOSHIARPUR:
So, finally, the 11-year-old boy, Gurinder Singh, will be united
with his family. Abandoned in Southall a few days ago and with
doubts about his family, the media was agog with conflicting claims
about where the boy hails from and what family he belongs to, but
now a Punjabi family from Tanda Ram Sahai village in Hoshiarpur has
proved beyond doubt that they indeed should be re-united with
Gurinder.
A newspaper from Britain was able to clinch the issue rather than a
lot of noise. Representatives of the newspaper met both the families
last week - a Bihar family had also claimed his custody, saying
Gurinder had been kidnapped in March 2005 - and then told the London
police that they had found the Punjabi family's claim to be
authentic.
Kuldip Singh from Tanda Ram Sahai had claimed to be the uncle of
Gurinder.
He told the local police that Gurinder had been abandoned by his
mother Deepinder Kaur, who lived separately from husband Mohinder
Singh and had flown illegally to UK via Malaysia and France along
with the boy.
Kuldip told representatives of the foreign press that Gurinder's
right hand finger was bent and the boy had a scar on one cheek. He
also handed them pictures, birth certificate and other documents.
Kuldip said he had received no intimation as yet, but was happy if
Gurinder's identity had been established.
