Enka singer Sarbjit Singh’s music king in Japan
WSN Network

TOKYO: Japanese crowds are thronging to hear Sarbjit Singh Chadha sing and fans jostle to get his autograph even three decades after he burst into the music scene there. Chadha, 56, the first non-Japanese singer of enka, a Japanese folk tradition similar to the American country music, came from India as a teenager and fell in love with its music.

Chadha learnt enka by listening to others and his first album in 1975 sold 1.5 lakh copies. After a brief stint, however, Chadha returned to India to take care of his family business but 30 years later, his comeback has been joyous. He has released a new album this month called “Odoru Mahachadha”.
