Varun Gandhi: RSS, BJP make it naked Hindutva game
Mansewak Singh

From "It is not my voice" to "Varun says CD is doctored", the BJP-RSS Hindutva lobby has travelled the hate mile rather fast. Now, the RSS' newly elected general secretary Bhaiyaji Joshi has openly declared support for Varun Gandhi and said his feelings (towards Muslims) were genuine. What's more, this support comes in writing, that too in the RSS official journal Organiser. “What Varun said is due to circumstances that have developed in the country today. The issue he raised should be taken seriously. The language he used may be improper, but his feelings are genuine. It has to be seen in the context of the situation prevailing there,” Joshi was quoted by Organiser.

As for the BJP, no one less than Rajnath Singh, president of the BJP, has now thrown his weight behind Varun Gandhi. Clearly, for the BJP, a young man who merely wanted to cut the hands of a few millions Muslims in Indian national interests but has been asked not to by some right thinking people, is now being victimised. He has been stopped in his tracks, and BJP is assuaging the minorities by making him a poster boy. Rajnath Singh hardly thought the idea of chopping off a few Muslim hands was harmful and said, "Varun is young and talented. He is unnecessarily being harassed."

Rajnath was using Varun issue even in his own constituency Ghaziabad. Maneka Gandhi may have accused Mayawati of not understanding a mother's pain, but Rajnath surely does understand and is playing father figure. "I talk to Menakaji at least four times a day." On April 6, he actually went to jail to meet Varun Gandhi.

The suave and the ugly faces of the BJP are all together in this. So an Arun Jaitley and a Narendra Modi both agree that the BJP stands firmly with Varun.

Now, suddenly, Sanjay Gandhi's son is a champion of democratic rights for the BJP. Arun jaitley said it was a political fight for restoration of democratic rights. Reacting to Mayawati's demand that Maneka should apologise, jaitley said, "She had only objected to the slapping of the NSA on Varun. At this point of time this is not a personal fight, but a political one. Mayawati has started a wrong tradition and the entire BJP stands firm behind Maneka and her son Varun.”
