YORK: Dr. Ambedkar International Mission Inc., U.S.A, in
collaboration with Southern Asian Institute, Columbia University has
planned to organize the first ever, “Dr. Ambedkar Lecture” on
Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Kellogg Centre, International Affairs
Building, Columbia University, New York.
Dr. Ambedkar did
his first Ph.D in 1915 from
Columbia
University.
This exposure of international learning provided Dr. Ambedkar
strength to take up the crusade of liberation of 250 million
untouchables and tribals of India.
Dr. Ambedkar
utilized Columbia University’s rich learning to discern the
pernicious and age old caste system of India. As part of his M.A
dissertation at
Columbia
University,
Dr. Ambedkar read his famous paper on “Castes in
India;
its Genesis, mechanism and development”. This paper was the first
ever analysis of the caste system, which established the malicious
intent behind the caste system.
Columbia
University had recognized Dr. Ambedkar as one of the 10 best
students in its 250 years long history.
Launching Dr.
Ambedkar Lecture is yet another milestone achievement in recognizing
Dr. Ambedkar’s work.
Dr. Ambedkar
Lecture on April 11, 2009 will be delivered by Professor Nicholas
Dirks, Vice President and Dean of Arts and Science at
Columbia
University.
Prof. Dirks has long standing research of Caste System in India,
particularly in Southern India.
Dr. Ambedkar
Lecture has been made an academic-cum-community event which will be
a full day function with break at lunch time. This event is indeed
a historic event for the Ambedkarites in North America.
The post lunch
session will be addressed by distinguished Ambedkarite scholars,
activists from Malaysia, U.K., Canada and by the Govt. of India’s
representatives, as well as by the researching students and faculty
from Columbia University. Large number of Ambedkarites from all over
U.S.A and Canada are expected to attend the event which is
