Punjabis showcase culture at
Springfield Mela

At a mela showcasing Punjabi culture and heritage at
Springfield
in Ohio, the City Hall Plaza came alive with Punjabi Gidhha and
reached climax with the famed Bhangra, presenting for the benefit of
not just Punjabis but people of many ethnicities the broad-spectrum
of our legacy of glorious human senses.
As young lasses
Sarabjeet Kaur, Kamaldeep Kaur Grewal, Tarandeep Kaur Grewal,
Kirandeep Kaur, Monika Nagdev, Navpreet Kaur Baasi, Rajdeep Kaur
Baasi, Jasbir Kaur Grewal, Charanjit Kaur, Palwinder Kaur and Tej
Kaur began on the high note of Gidhha, they were watched by many of
the Chinese, Japanese, Irish origin artistes and people who too were
present there to showcase their songs, dances and culture.
The Bhangra
team's performance turned out to be the
high point
of the evening with Sukhdeep Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Manpreet Singh,
Tanveer Singh, Ravjot Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur, Harleen Kaur Bajaj,
Gunveen Kaur Bajaj ensuring that the Punjabi beats are carried home
by all in their memories for a long time to come. Making their
contribution on the drums were Lakhwinder Singh Mattu and Simarjeet
Singh.
In
a bid to acquaint the audience with regular items of use in Punjabi
living, the organisers had put up an exhibition of objects like a
harmonium, dhol, chimtya, been, surahi, charkha, madhani, peerhi,
and hand held fans etc. Many expressed interest in acquiring a
picture of Sri Darbar Sahib. S. Karanvir Singh and Kirandeep Kaur
explained salient features of Sikhism to many interested
participants.
The day saw
participation of Avtar Singh Spriongfield, Piara Singh Saimbi, Dr.
Darshan Singh, Rajpal Singh Bajaj, Kartar Singh, Daljit Singh Deol,
Sameep Singh Gumtala, Mohinder Singh Takhar, Kulwant Kaur Takhar,
Jaswant Singh Grewal, Pragan Singh, Charanjit Kaur and Miss
Sagarika.
