Sultanpur
Lodhi to figure on global tourist circuit
WSN Network
Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has said his
Government was taking measures to develop the holy city Sultanpur
Lodhi to bring it on International Religious Tourist Circuit. He was
presiding over the first meeting of newly constituted Sultanpur
Lodhi Development Board on November 5. He sanctioned a plan of
Rs.4.66 crore to upgrade the water supply and sewerage network of
this town to cater to increasing flow of pilgrims to this town. The
Board also approved for the town a multi-specialty hospital.
Badal said he would request the Center to declare the historic fort
of Sultanpur Lodhi as heritage building and sanction special funds
to preserve this fort of religious importance to the Sikh community
living all over the world.
Interestingly, Badal said he would request Prime Minister Dr.
Manmohan Singh to participate in Gurupurab celebrations of Sri Guru
Nanak Dev ji being organized in this town on November 24 as a State
level function. The tradition of requesting VIPs for participating
in gurpurabs is a long running one in Punjab and the Sikh community
seems to have paid little attention as to why it should "request"
people to participate.
