Vedanti spots wisdom: SGPC has political interference
WSN Network

Hoshiarpur: Wisdom often dawns slightly later than it is most required. Former Jathedar of Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs, Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti who was here on Monday said though religion has a supremacy on politics but even then the latter is "dominating" in the functioning of SGPC, the apex religious body of Sikhs, "which is not a healthy sign".

Vedanti did not say if he took any steps to undo the wrong but lamented the "self-styled" Gurus in the garb of Sikh religion who are promoting 'Deravad' for getting themselves worshiped by the innocent people. It was during Vedanti's jathedarship that issues like Baba Dhanwant, Noormehlias, Dera Sirsa etc cropped with a renewed vigour.

Vedanti was made to leave his top post in hazy circumstances in a move clearly directed by Prakash Singh Badal-Sukhbir Singh Badal and executed by Avtar Singh Makkar, and since then he has veered close to the Sarnas of the DSGMC though he continues to enjoy the facilities including free residence and phone, vehicle etc from the SGPC.

Referring to the Nanakshahi calender, Jathedar Vedanti claimed that 95 per cent of the Sikhs and their various organisations had already approved the calendar and were following it.
