Triple Sikh murderer to remain
in custody
WSN Network
BRISBANE: A Brisbane manaccused
of a triple murderalmost six years ago will remain in custody
pending the outcome of his bail application. Max Sica, 38, is
charged with murdering 24-year-old Neelma Singh, her 18-year-old
brother Kunal Singh and 12-year-old sister Sidhi Singh. The bodies
of the three siblings were found in a spa in their parent’s home at
Bridgeman Downs on
Brisbane’s
northside
in April 2003.
Sica’s lawyers applied for and were granted an urgent bail
application hearing in
Brisbane
on January 2,
Australian press has reported But it was adjourned by Justice James
Douglas after Michael Byrne, acting for Sica, asked for more time to
prepare a response to a taped conversation between Sica and his
father. In the recording made by police prior to Sica’s arrest, he
is advised by his father to flee the country.
The Queensland Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Tony Moynihan
described the request for an adjournment as absurd, given the demand
by Sica’s lawyers for an urgent hearing. Justice Douglas granted the
adjournment but warned one of Sica’s lawyers, Kerry Smith
Douglas, to
watch what she says
after telling
the media her client faces trumped up charges. The hearing before
Justice Douglas is due to resume on January 27. Sica will remain in
custody pending its outcome.
