Raiders or Internal fights?
WSN Network
LONDON: Internal
fights within the management committee of a community centre of the
Sikhs led to allegations about an attack by raiders, calls to the
police, visit by the cops and a lot of egg on the face for the local
management but now all sides say they want to leave the matter as it
is and move on.
Three Sikh priests and a handful of worshippers were caught
in what was called "a dramatic raid on a community centre" but which
was not pursued later by either the managers or the police.
Police were called to the Nanak Community Centre, in
St James's Road,
Croydon, after five raiders broke into the building and caused a
large amount of damage.
The raid lasted several hours, and a number of electrical
items, and a quantity of cash, were stolen.
Now it seems the entire drama was between two groups over the
membership of the central committee and allegations of raid were
sparked by internal fight in which some people did gross damage to
the property. Staff at the centre say they want to put the episode
behind them, and police have said they will be taking no further
action. Now the management committee will discuss it all at a
forthcoming meeting.
It is thought that a dispute over membership of the centre's
committee sparked the episode, which unfolded shortly before
2pm on April 20.
But the centre has confirmed three priests and a few members
of the public were in the building when the gang used drills to cut
through the locks. The men then proceeded to wreck doors, cupboards
and display units within the building.
