Bay Area Sikhs honored for fighting
hunger

Fremont: In keeping
with the core Sikh concept of 'Seva' or community service, local
Sikh community organised a successful food drive, and won accolades.
On May 3, Sunday, Fremont Sikhs were honored at Gurdwara
Sahib, Fremont by the Alameda County Community Food Bank with a Gold
plate award for donating close to 3000 lbs of dry food and blankets
in 2008.
This award was given based upon the highest donation by any
single organization in the area. Fremont Gurdwara Sahib Sikhs have
organized such a drive in the past too.
Shannon Le Rutherford, Donor relation Manger of Alameda
County Food bank, addressed a congregation at Gurdwara Sahib, and
commended the Sikhs on their efforts to make a powerful difference
in the fight against hunger.
The Food Bank distributes nutritious food to 300 agencies
serving low-income people throughout
Alameda County.
The award was received by Gurdwara Sahib President Harjot
Singh Khalsa, Bhai Jagtar Singh, Balbir Kaur Sull, Hardev Singh,
Bahadur Singh, Bibi Gurmeet Kaur, Tejinder Singh Dhami, Balbir singh
Gakhal ,Dr. Jagtar Singh Sandhu and Nirpal Singh on behalf of Sikh
community.
Harjot Singh Khalsa thanked the Bay Area Sikhs for their
generosity and said another wide reaching food drive will be carried
out this year.
