LONDON:
A celebration to mark the past 50 years of Sikh heritage in Britain
was held at Gravesend on February 2 where an event "British Sikhs:
Past, Present and Future" was held at Woodville Halls, Windmill
Street. The free event showcased a photographic exhibition,
including material from the V&A museum in central London. Raagis
performed kirtan and Gravesham MP Adam Holloway led the string of
speakers.
Young professional
British Sikhs also talked about their experiences. The event was
organised by the North West Kent Racial Equality Council and the
Siri Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara, Gravesend.
Racial equality
council assistant director Gurvinder Sander said: "We only had
seating for 510 people. I think we could have doubled that as there
was so much demand. We had a very good range of people from other
faiths. It shows a strong community in Gravesend.
