indefinite fast, deteriorated on Thursday morning; he has been
shifted to the intensive care unit of Soura Medical Institute. He
has been on a fast for he last three days demanding cessation of
hostilities against Kashmiris and complete stoppage of all blockade
of Kashmir.
While beginning his fast, he had declared that,
“There is need to counter the brazen attempts to communalise the
situation in Jammu and Kashmir. It is part of the policy to divide
the state along communal lines which we will not allow to succeed,”
Civil society responded to the call of Yasin
Malik and a galaxy of civil libertarians, prominent among them being
Maisuma, Professor Ayesha Jalal, Prof. Sugata Bose, Swami Agnivesh,
Veena Ji and Ram Mohan Roy met him today and expressed solidarity
for his mission.
Another leader, Bhim Singh and Satish Poonchi of
the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) were also
hospitalised after their condition suddenly deteriorated on the
fourth day of their fast unto death. These leaders have been
