Homage paid to martyrs of Sikh cause
WSN Network

FREMONT: At a major conclave aimed at paying tributes to the martyrs of the Sikh cause, Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib were performed on Sunday, followed by katha and kirtan in the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice for the cause of freedom.

On this occasion, Bhai Jaswinder Singh Jandi said the Fremont Gurdwara was raised in the memory of these martyrs. Vice-president of the gurdwara, Bhai Bikramjit Singh, also paid his homage while committee members Gurmeet Singh Cheena recalled her association with many of the martyrs and recited a poem about freedom of Khalsa Panth.

Bhai Prabhsharandeep Singh, who teaches religion at the University of California’s Berkley Center also shared his views with the sangat. He paid homage to Bhai Gurjant Singh Budhsinghwala, Bhai Labh Singh, Bhai Sukhdev Singh and all other martyrs and said these people were eager for the cause of our freedom and better future. These men under the leadership of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale possessed great qualities and brought the cause of Sikh freedom to global level.

Secretary General of the gurdwara Bhai Satnam Singh Khalsa stressed the need for unity among the Diaspora Sikhs. He said otherwise we shall all be overcome by our enemies and will face the ignominy of failure.

Bhai Joginder Singh, who had come from Canada, said we need to move from being a Sikh to Gursikh to Gurmukh to Khalsa. Speaking on behalf of the families of the martyrs, Bhai Balwinderpal Singh said 95 per cent of the Sikhs living in the US, Canada and Europe after getting political asylum in the name of the martyrs are living a life of comfort while families who made real sacrifices are languishing back home in Punjab. He said we should not be ungrateful as this is the greatest curse for any human being.
