Nanded to Yuba City
WSN Bureau

The same colours. The same attire. The same numbers
–thousands. This whole week has seen the Sikhs across the globe
celebrating the coronation of the Guru Granth Sahib.
The festivity, the pervading spirit of service with a smile,
the rendering of Kirtan and Katha in its purest forms, the presence
of religious and political dignitaries of all hues and shades –it
was there in Nanded and ditto in Yuba City.
The Sikh Day Parade of
Yuba City – now in
its twenty-ninth year - has become an annual festival of Sikh
celebrating their rich heritage and legacy. In a demonstration of
numerical strength and community affiliation, Sikhs from all over
the US descend on Yuba City to participate in the biggest Nagar
Kirtan this country has every year.
This year was special. The Tercentenary celebrations of the
Guru Granth Sahib added more religious fervour, love and dedication
amongst the organizers and the participants alike.
Floats and a variety of Langars donned the four kilometer
route and the events coincided with readings from Guru Granth Sahib
and film documentaries on Sikh history, included PBS productions,
‘Sikhs in America’ and “Monument of Injustice’ on the life and times
of the last Sikh ruler, Maharaja Duleep Singh.
