PATIALA:
Dr Jaspal Singh has been appointed the new vice-chancellor of
the Punjabi University. At present, he is serving as principal
of Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce in New Delhi. But more
notably, he is a member of the Political Affairs Committee of the
Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal). Badal once again showed how he often
fails to look beyond his party when it comes to making important
appointments.
A teacher of political science, Dr Jaspal Singh
began his carrier from Khalsa College, Delhi, and also
remained general secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management
Committee. Considered close to former prime minister Inder Kumar
Gujaral, Dr Jaspal Singh has also served as the Indian ambassador to
Mozambique. He did his Ph.D thesis on ‘Sikh Raj Da Sankalap’.
