Ramoowalia keeps on the pressure
on travel agents
WSN Bureau
JALANDHAR:
Lok Bhalai Party president Balwant Singh Ramoowalia has asked CM
Prakash Singh Badal to take up the cause of victims of fraud travel
agents and pave the way for action in such cases.
He presented
before the media three families who paid two alleged unauthorised
travel agents Rs 54 lakh, in separate cases, to send their children
abroad. One of the victims, Bhupinder Singh, 38, is presently lodged
in a prison in Indonesia while the two others Karamjit Kaur and
Rajwinder Kaur are struggling to get a FIR lodged.
Bhupinder's
mother Joginder Kaur (68), who was accompanied by his wife Manjit
Kaur and their four children, and Rajwinder said at the Circuit
House that despite repeated visits to Batala police station, no FIR
was registered.
Ramoowalia urged
Badal to order the Batala police to bust the nexus of "bogus" travel
agent Ranjit Singh, his wife Devinder Kaur and son Rimmy based in
Singapore and their local links Rupinder Kaur and her husband
Sukhdev Singh.
Ramoowalia said
that Bhupinder Singh and Rajwinder Kaur went to Indonesia in the
month of April, from where they were to fly out to Canada. "Bhupinder
paid travel agent Ranjit Singh Rs 17 lakh advance money and
Rajwinder Kaur Rs 11 lakh. He even took away their passports. The
Indonesian police arrested Bhupinder while Rajwinder returned to
India on a new passport from Jakarta," said Ramoowalia, adding that
he had intervened to get the legal process expedited.
The former MP
produced another victim girl Karamjit Kaur, who was duped by Jaspal
Singh of Tanda of Rs 26 lakh on a false commitment. Jaspal Singh
made a false promise to get the girl married to his nephew based in
England over five years ago. A couple of months back, Jaspal
arranged her wedding to a labourer posing as the nephew. Karamjit
now says that the police are favouring the accused.
In another case,
26-year-old Rajwinder Kaur of Jaura village in Hoshiarpur alleged
that she was abandoned by the family of her Germany-based husband
but despite repeated attempts, Kartarpur police refuse to take
action against the in-laws.
