Notes from Nepal
WSN Network

KATHMANDU: The great experiment  is coming to a rather early end in Nepal. The 240-year-old institution of monarchy is gone, 0but replacing it were armed rebels.
Prachanda of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists has failed to deliver and non-Maoists are not helping.

There is again talk of a “mass revolt” for total capture of the state. So, be prepared for a possible Maoists’ walk out even before the constitution-making process is over. A confrontation with the Nepal Army could be on the cards too as the army has turned down Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal’s instruction to stop the ongoing recruitment of nearly 2,000 people for the lowest ranks of the Army.

The stand-off has triggered a political polarisation as leaders of the Nepali Congress, UML, Rashtriya Janashakti Party and a few others are believed to have assured their support to the Army on the issue. So what will Prachanda do? An all out confrontation with the Army, or quit? Nepal is again headed towards political instability.
