Rs 1 crore for translation of
Guru Granth Sahib

CHANDIGARH:
The Indian government has given a grant of Rs.10 million for
translation of Guru Granth Sahib into English and Hindi to
commemorate the tercentenary of the “Guru-ta-Gaddi”. The translated
versions would be distributed to public librariesand educational
institutions to spread the message of the holy scripture, a Punjab
government spokesman said here.Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh
Badal has urged the central government to issue a commemorative coin
to mark the important occasion. Neither Badal nor the SGPC has said
anything about who will approve the translations. And how will the
new translation be different than the earlier ones was also not
touched upon.
