HYDERABAD: The ‘Guru
Manyo Granth Jagriti Yatra’ to commemorate the consecration of the
Granth Sahib and the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh
Guru, arrived here on Tuesday. Celebrations at such a scale are
being organised for the first time since 1708. The four-day yatra
showcases rare weapons and other historical articles of Guru Gobind
Singh and the Sikh martyrs taken out from the sanctum sanctorum of
Sachkhand Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra, for the first time in the
history of the Sikh community.
Gurucharan Singh Bagga, chairman of the Jagrathi Yatra reception
committee, said the yatra was aimed at spreading the message of
equality and secularism. The nationwide tour began its journey from
Nanded on November 15 last year.
“The bedecked vehicle, specially designed for the tour, was welcomed
in a befitting manner by the Prabhandak Committees of all Gurudwaras
and thousands of devotees at Choutuppal in Nalgonda district on
Tuesday,” said S. Pritam Singh, secretary of the reception
committee.
On Wednesday, the yatra proceeded through Charmahal Gurudwara,
Gurudwara Kalgidhar Niwas in Goshamahal and Gurudwara Guru Singh
Sabha before ending in a procession at NTR Stadium. Chief Minister
Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy participated in a function at the stadium
along with several of his Cabinet colleagues. The yatra then
proceeded to the oldest Gurudwara in the city, Central Gurudwara
Saheb in Gowliguda, before going in a huge procession to Gurudwara
Saheb in Ameerpet. The final day saw the procession go through
Gurudwaras in Balanagar, Manovikas Nagar, Alwal and Seethaphalamandi
before returning to the Gurudwara at Secunderabad.
