Dr. Atamjit wins Sahitya Akademi
Award
LUDHIANA:
Playwright Dr Atamjit Singh has been chosen for the 2008 Sahitya
Akademi Award in Punjabi language for his play Tatti Tawi Da Sacch,
based on the martyrdom of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev.
An elated Dr
Atamjit said he dedicated the award to his father, noted Punjabi
writer late Principal S.S.
Amole. Principal of ASSM College in Mukandpur, Dr Atamjit said after getting the award,
"he had mixed feelings of happiness and fear, because when people
get such awards, their creativity goes down".
"But I am all
geared up and would not let this happen at any cost. I'm praying to
God to give me strength to write more and better plays in the near
future," he said.
He said he
dedicated this award to his father whose birth centenary fell in
2008. "Birth centenaries of other Punjabi writers born in 1908 were
celebrated by various literary organisations last year, but no one
remembered my father. That is why I am dedicating this award to
him."

When asked
whether he felt he got the award late, Dr Atamjit said, "Some people
do think that I have got this award very late, but for every award
there is more than one candidate. And it's not that every one would
get this award. I am thankful to all those who decided in my favour
and would try to live up to their expectations."
