Jaswant Singh Kanwal singes Master
Tara Singh in new book
WSN Bureau
AMRITSAR: Noted
Punjabi litterateur Jaswant Singh Kanwal, often hailed for straight
talk but also a subject of controversies for his maverick views and
strong anti-migrant stance, is now the target of ire of Bibi
Kiranjot Kaur, grand daughter of Panth Rattan Master Tara Singh.
Kanwal, it
seems, has made some unsavoury remarks against the legendary Akali
Dal leader as well as the party in his new book “Punjabio Marna Hai
Ke Jeena”.
Interestingly,
Kiranjot had in 2000 dragged then breakaway Akali Dal of Gurcharan
Singh Tohra into a controversy over Sirdar Kapur Singh's book Sachi
Sakhi claiming extrapolation of many paragraphs showing the Master
in a bad light.
The Punjab
Government will be in a fix over the new revelations as Kiranjot is
also a member of the 32-member advisory committee of the Punjab
Language Department that cleared the name of Kanwal for the Punjabi
Sahit Rattan Award recently.
Demands for
withdrawal of the award are likely. Master Tara Singh played a key
role during the turbulent phase of 1946-47 and is credited with
saving all of
Punjab
going to
Pakistan.
In his book, Kanwal accuses him of ditching
Pakistan
founder Jinnah who he claimed was for creating a buffer Sikh state.
Kanwal will find
some support from Sikh sections as he has minced no words in
exposing the passive and active collusion between the ruling Akali
Dal and RSS-BJP.
