Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday granted
anticipatory bail to Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, former media advisor
to former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, in the Ludhiana
City Centre scam.
However, the court
declined to grant anticipatory bail to G K Gambhir, the director of
New Delhi-based construction company Today Homes which was granted
contract for ambitious City Centre project of the Ludhiana
Improvement Trust. Vinay Subhiki, company’s vice president
(corporate affairs), Sunil Sharma, general manager, human resources
development and Syed Ashfaque Hussain Naqvi, former marketing
manager, have been given anticipatory bail.
In the case of
Chahal, the bench ordered that instead of three consecutive days in
a week, as directed earlier, the investigating officer shall be at
liberty to direct the petitioner to join investigation on any
working day from 10 am to 6 pm and during the said period, the
petitioner would not have the assistance of a lawyer or any other
person. However, in the event of arrest, he would be released on
pre-arrest bail on furnishing a bail bond to the satisfaction of the
investigating officer.
It was further
directed that the order of pre-arrest bail would continue to be in
force till the date of presentation of chargesheet in the court
whereafter he would surrender before the trial court and seek
regular bail.
