Hearing on in case against Jagir
Kaur
WSN Network
PATIALA:
A local court here has been regularly hearing the case against Bibi
Jagir Kaur in which she stands accused of killing her own daughter
Harpreet Kaur in 2000. A Central Bureau of Investigation probe had
held Bibi Jagir Kaur as the main accused.
Kamaljit -- who
claims to have been engaged to Harpreet -- appeared in the court
last week to complete his examination which continued on Friday. He
had earlier appeared on April 29, 2009. Recording of Kamaljit's
statement will continue on the next hearing. On Supreme Court
directions to decide the case at the earliest possible, the Patiala
court has fixed dates for the next five hearings -- February 5, 25
and 26, and March 13 and 25.
Kamaljit was
shown the seizure memo prepared by the CBI, which included some
greeting cards and slips of a Jalandhar maternity hospital, while
prosecution counsel presented a video footage. Asked by defence
counsels S.S. Kler and Satnam Singh, Kamaljit refused to accept he
had ever submitted slips of a maternity hospital to the CBI. In the
absence of a video cassette player, the video recording -- key
evidence in the case -- could not be played. Kamaljit told the court
he had clicked pictures of Harpreet's ring ceremony in a hotel,
which was booked in advance, to keep as evidence. He also said he
was never approached by Harpreet or her mother Bibi Jagir Kaur with
a marriage proposal. All accused, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Dalbinder Kaur
Dhesi and Paramjit Singh Raipur, were present in the court.
