Taj hotel's
Sikh GM family among those killed first

MOHALI: In one
of the first killings in Mumbai terror strike, terrorists sought out
and killed the family members of the Sikh General Manager of Taj
Hotel.
Karamveer Singh,
son of Maj Gen Jagtar Singh Kang (retd) of Jagatpura village, was
the General Manager at Hotel Taj in Mumbai and resided on the hotel
premises itself. Karamveer Singh was out for some work, while his
wife Niti Kang (37) and sons Udhay (15) and
Samar (5), who
stayed back at the hotel, were killed.

Here's a Sikh's
approach
After such a
terrifying tragedy, when the operation ended, India's top
industrialist and owner of the hotel, Ratan Tata revealed that as
soon as it was all over, Karamveer Singh walked up to him and said,
"Sir, don't worry. We will work hard and get Taj back to its glory
in no time." Such is the mettle that this man displayed even after a
tragedy under which most will buckle.

Maj Gen Kang was
in
Bahrain to meet his daughter and rushed back to get the bodies which
were brought here and cremated.
A 22-year-old
student of hotel management, Jasmine, pursuing training at Hotel
Oberoi in Mumbai was also killed the terrorists as soon as they
walked in. She was a trainee receptionist at the hotel. Her father,
Maninder Singh, is a serving DIG in ITBP at Ramgarh in Haryana.
Jasmine was shot in the right arm and forehead.
Jasmine did her
schooling from St Xavier’s School in Sector 44,
Chandigarh, and
completed her graduation in Hotel Management from the Oberoi Centre
of Excellence in New Delhi. She also worked at the Shimla Oberoi
earlier.
She was the
daughter of DIG Maninder Singh Bhurji.
