How far removed is Indian
politician from people’s pulse
WSN Network
BANGALORE:
Major
Sandeep Unnikrishnan of the NSG commandos who died in the Mumbai
operations must be wondering up above in the heavens about how
India's politicians can stoop to such lowly levels. When Kerala CM V
S Achuthanandan went to his Bangalore residence, the slain major's
father sensed politics and refused to meet the CM.
Next day, the CM
said something that would shock any civilised person. he said had it
not been the Major's house, "even a dog would ot have glanced in
that direction." As electronic media telecast the CM saying such
words on the camera, there was more trouble for politicians. A BJP
spokesperson, commenting on some middle class people protesting
against inept politicians in Mumbai, said a few people who come
sporting ties or the women who participate with ensuring that they
put on lipstick and powder before protests do not represent common
Indian people.
But then there
were others who had caught the foot in the mouth disease. The then
Maharashtra Deputy CM R R Patil said what happened in Mumbai was not
really very significant and that such minor things keep happening in
big cities.
Well, the Indian
middle class, at least that which watches 24X7 news TV, rose in
anger, rage and shouts. RR Patil was made to resign, BJP was
cowering, its spokespersons dissciating themselves from remarks and
the CPM feeling sorry for what Kerala CM had said.
Clearly,
Indian political class is way out of touch with the pulse of the
people.
