Police say Harpal Singh Bhullar's son ISI spy
WSN Network

FEROZEPUR: Activities of Bhai Mardana Yadgari Kirtan Darbar Society headed by Harpal Singh Bhullar came under a shadow last week when Punjab Police raided his residence and arrested his 26-year-old son Gurjeet Singh, claiming he was spying for Pakistan's ISI, a charge stoutly denied by Bhullar who said it was all part of a conspiracy to defame him.

Police claimed that Gurjeet, a frequent visitor to Pakistan as part of the Sikh pilgrims' jatha, came in contact with ISI officials Sayeed and Rana during a visit to Pakistan and started working for them. The police also arrested one Dilbagh Singh, 25, of Amritsar, claiming that he too was an associate of Gurjeet. As per the police, the two were lured by money and used to get paid through hawala transactions and passed on the information through SMSes and e-mails.

Incidentally, Gurjeet is physically challenged. His father has claimed that his rivals were out to settle personal scores with him and the raid and arrest were all part of that. He has vowed that he will not get his son released on bail and will fight it out.

Punjab Special Operations Cell (Amritsar unit) in-charge P.K. Rai told the media that sensitive material related to military installations, photographs, charts, movement of Army units and Pakistan phone numbers had been found stored on the recovered laptop and mobile phones.

Such claims by the police have often turned out to be specious in courts, and the circumstances in the case are too murky for anyone to say anything definitively.
