Gurdwara Glen Rock rocks at Sikh

Orange: In an atmosphere of incomparable conviviality, the 21st
annual Sikh Games organised by Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Glen Rock
turned out to be a huge success as teams from nearly 23 gurdwaras of
East Coast and around 500 players participated for the honors in
various disciplines.
Overall trophy
was won by Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Glen Rock scoring 75 marks.
Coordinator for all the games, Bhai Joga Singh and his associates
had asked West Orange city Mayor John McKeon to inaugurate the
games. The Mayor congratulated the community for the venture and
asked it to participate in every sphere of American life.
The disciplines
in the games included Athletics, basketball, football and
volleyball.
Interestingly,
even the kids below the age of 10 years also participated
enthusiastically.
The sewa of the
langar was performed by S. Kamikkar Singh Grewal family and S.
Harpal Singh Rai with much devotion.
From among the
girls, Bibi Gurdarshan Kaur and Simran Kaur of Gurdwara Sahib, Glen
Rock, were nominated as the best athletes while from among the boys,
Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar, Carteret's Ajay Singh won the honor.
As for
basketball, the under-10 girls team from Glen Rock and under 10 boys
team from Central Jersey Sikh Association bagged the top slots. In
soccer (senior), Mid Hudson Gurdwara Sahib team won among boys while
Glen rock won among girls.
Gurdwara Glen
Rock teams also scored top rank in under 14 soccer for both boys and
girls while CJSA won the under 10 soccer.
As for
volleyball, failing light forced early termination of the match thus
ensuring that New York's Gurdwara Sahib, Flushing and Glenrock's
teams were declared joint winners.
Mid Hudson's
Manpreet Kaur Dhillon beat everyone in the one-mile race 9senior)
while Bridgewater Gurdwara Sahib's Rattan Singh won from among the
boys.
Glen Rock also
won in the above 40 years category of soccer when Sikh Youth of
America's president Gurinderjit Singh scored a winning goal. Glen
Rock gurdwara president Bhai Harbhajan Singh and chairman Bhai Jassa
Singh thanked all those members who worked tirelessly to make the
venture a success. Tournament's coordinator Bhai Joga Singh thanked
all the gurughar's managing committees and participating players.
