WSN Network

West Orange: In an atmosphere of incomparable conviviality, the 21st annual Sikh Games organised by Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Glen Rock turned out to be a huge success as teams from nearly 23 gurdwaras of East Coast and around 500 players participated for the honors in various disciplines.

Overall trophy was won by Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Glen Rock scoring 75 marks. Coordinator for all the games, Bhai Joga Singh and his associates had asked West Orange city Mayor John McKeon to inaugurate the games. The Mayor congratulated the community for the venture and asked it to participate in every sphere of American life.

The disciplines in the games included Athletics, basketball, football and volleyball.

Interestingly, even the kids below the age of 10 years also participated enthusiastically.

The sewa of the langar was performed by S. Kamikkar Singh Grewal family and S. Harpal Singh Rai with much devotion.

From among the girls, Bibi Gurdarshan Kaur and Simran Kaur of Gurdwara Sahib, Glen Rock, were nominated as the best athletes while from among the boys, Gurdwara Dasmesh Darbar, Carteret's Ajay Singh won the honor.

As for basketball, the under-10 girls team from Glen Rock and under 10 boys team from Central Jersey Sikh Association bagged the top slots. In soccer (senior), Mid Hudson Gurdwara Sahib team won among boys while Glen rock won among girls.

Gurdwara Glen Rock teams also scored top rank in under 14 soccer for both boys and girls while CJSA won the under 10 soccer.

As for volleyball, failing light forced early termination of the match thus ensuring that New York's Gurdwara Sahib, Flushing and Glenrock's teams were declared joint winners.

Mid Hudson's Manpreet Kaur Dhillon beat everyone in the one-mile race 9senior) while Bridgewater Gurdwara Sahib's Rattan Singh won from among the boys.

Glen Rock also won in the above 40 years category of soccer when Sikh Youth of America's president Gurinderjit Singh scored a winning goal. Glen Rock gurdwara president Bhai Harbhajan Singh and chairman Bhai Jassa Singh thanked all those members who worked tirelessly to make the venture a success. Tournament's coordinator Bhai Joga Singh thanked all the gurughar's managing committees and participating players.
