Bhai Khalsa hails SYA leadership
model
WSN Network
FREMONT:
In a rather pithy observation regarding the Sikh Youth of America,
Sikh leader Bhai Harinder Singh Khalsa who is currently visiting the
United States, has said it was a rather welcome development that the
older generation was making special efforts to rope in and install
the younger generation in leadership positions. Khalsa, who had a
candid round of discussion with SYA activists of Bay Area last
Wednesday, also shared his journey from his resignation as
Ambassador to Norway to his current activities.
Bhai Khalsa, who
spoke in English in view of the fact that many of the Sikh youth
were not really conversant with Punjabi, nevertheless stressed the
need to learn the mother tongue. He said without an engagement with
Punjabi language, it wasn't really possible to understand the
nuances of Punjabi culture and Sikhism.
Bhai Khalsa, now
convenor of Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) also pointed to the gaping
flaws in the way democracy functions in
India
and asked the Diaspora Sikhs to be ready to intervene in the SGPC
elections.
Bhai Jaswinder
Singh Jandi thanked the participants and assured all cooperation.
