Sikh Children's camps to
commemorate 1984
FRESNO,
CA: Jakara Movement has announced launch of the Fall 2009 Jakara
Junior camps. Twice a year, the Jakara Movement organizes children’s
camps in 12 regions throughout California. During the months of
October and November, Jakara Junior camps will be held in
commemoration of 1984. The camps will focus on the theme of “A
Nation Never Forgets” and children will learn age-relevant
information about the role 1984 played in Sikh history.
The first two
camps were held on October 24th, 2009 in Fresno and Kerman with over
150 children in attendance. The camps were extremely successful in
bringing youth together to teach their younger brothers and sisters
about Sikh history. Through Gurbani, readings, arts and crafts,
films and presentations – children learned about 1984. All teaching
material was designed specifically for each age group.
The Jakara
Junior camps are open to all children, ages 5 and above. Camps will
be held in the following cities: Sacramento, San Diego, Fremont,
Turlock/Livingston, Los Angeles, Orange County, Stockton, Yuba City,
San Jose and Riverside. Parents are encouraged to register their
children for the Jakara Junior Camps.
