Baljit Singh Chadha is
Distinguished Fellow
Bhai Harbans Lal,
a well known Sikh community voice at the international fora and
Emeritus Professor and Chair, Pharmacology & Neuroscience, U. North
Texas Health Science Center, has welcomed the appointment of S
Baljit Singh Chadha as the Distinguished Fellow of the
Vancouver-based Asia Pacific Foundation.
The Asia Pacific
Foundation of Canada, created by an Act of Canadian Parliament in
1984, is an independent, not-for-profit think-tank on Canada's
relations with Asia. The Foundation functions as a knowledge broker,
bringing together people and knowledge to provide current and
comprehensive research, analysis and information on Canada's
transpacific relations. It promotes dialogue on economic, security,
political and social issues, fostering informed decision-making in
the Canadian public, private and non-governmental sectors. The
Foundation also provides grants to support policy research and
informed discussion on Canada’s relations with Asia.
Dr Lal said it
was "heartening to learn that a leader of our Sikh community in
Canada is selected to this prestigious position." Baljit Singh
Chadha will be one of the two Distinguished Fellows of this
prestigious Foundation.
Chadha has a
very distinguished record of much public recognition for his
services to the Canadian communities particularly in the field of
education and business. In 2003, Chadha was appointed by Prime
Minister Jean Chrétien to the Security Intelligence Review Committee
as well as to the Queen's Privy Council for Canada.
Baljit Singh
Chadha, PC (born 1952) is president and founder of Balcorp Limited,
an international trade and marketing firm. He is also a well known
philanthropist and a leader of the Sikh community in Canada
to which he immigrated in 1973 from India
to study business administration. He founded Balcorp in 1976,
building it into a $50 million concern with offices in Montreal, New
Delhi and Mumbai.
