Ishmeet Singh is India's
Singing Sensation
WSN Network
MUMBAI/AMRITSAR: Many had thought this may come in his way, but in
the end Ishmeet Singh proved that it will only help in endearing
himself more with his admirers. Being a turbaned Sikh clearly seems
to have helped as Ishmeet Singh rode a national TV watching public
frenzy to emerge the winner of Star TV’s ‘Voice of India’ contest.
At
18, Ishmeet Singh is suddenly a Sikh idol, and the trendiest
hairstyle statement is being a turbaned Sikh. Victory Day was also
the day of the Guru. As Sikhs around the world celebrated Gurpurab,
the birth anniversary of the religion's founder Guru Nanak Dev Ji,
crackers suddenly went in short supply as Ishmeet Singh jumped in
the air, hearing India's Singing Living Idol Lata Mangeshkar
announce his name as the winner, in the presence Bollywood actress
Madhuri Dixit and several other celebrities.
Even as Sikhs celebrate the event from California to Calgary to
Christchurch to Chandigarh, and hunderds of thousands of mobile
owners are besieged by SMS's extolling Ishmeet Singh's talents, the
boy himself is busy recording in the studio. He has won a contract
with the Big Music, a Chevrolet car and many more goodies, but the
great honour is still ahead.
Ishmeet Singh will be honored at the Akal Takht on December 2. His
father Gurpinder Singh acknowledges the fact that Ishmeet is a star
now but does not forget to underline that the Sikh boys and girls
needed a role model in present times when many think that getting
their hair cut is some kind of a ticket to stardom.
