Baba Seechewal connects gurpurab
to environment issues
WSN Network
Jalandhar: Trust Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal to find a good cause
and connect it to a gurpurab. Religion is often a great force
multiplier. A unique nagar kirtan to mark the birth anniversary Guru
Nanak Dev Ji started from Dhanoa village in Hoshiarpur district last
and went along the banks of historic Kali Bein, spreading the
message about environmental issues.
Covering a distance of around 150 km on foot in five days, it
reached Sultanpur Lodhi touching around 88 villages besides a few
towns and eventually culminating at Nirmal Kutiya Seechewal. The
rally started from Dhanoa as the Bein starts from there amidst a
catchment area and a natural, source of water.
Baba Seechewal in his address to the devotees emphasized the need
for keeping natural water resources clean and to save the
underground water from pollution. He quoted extensively from Gurbani
and Sikh history to drive home the point that to preserve the
natural resources was a very much divine duty. While he asked
villagers not to throw dirty water into the Bein, he also appealed
to the people of the state, factory owners and the government to
ensure that untreated water was not thrown into the rivers or other
natural water streams.
