Akali Dal (Amritsar) hurtling towards clear split
WSN Bureau
CHANDIGARH: Events seem to be moving full swing ahead and by all
available indications, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), which at
one stage seemed one of the most promising Akali parties, is headed
for a vertical split with both factions led by Simranjit Singh Mann
and Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu scheduled to hold parallel rallies this
month-end.
Both the leaders as well as their associates have issued separate
advertisements in the media, calling people to their conferences.
The Mann group held its rally on 28th in Chandigarh while Bhai
Daljit Singh Bittu is holding his rally on November 30th at Alamgir.
By all available indications, both are likely to claim to be the
original Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), thus formalising a clear
split. In the recent past, Mann and his associates have been issuing
extremely derogatory statements against Bhai Daljit Singh, and the
favourite way of abusing political opponents has been to call them
agents of the Congress.
The Bhai Daljit Singh Group is known to be preparing to announce
some kind of collective leadership. The differences between the two
top leaders seemed to have become more acute following the Assembly
poll results, particularly after Mann withdrew hhis resignation,
thus missing a major chance to refurbish and restructure the entire
party.
