Sahib varsity launch in July next

Chandigarh: Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University would be formally
launched in July next year as a decision to this effect was taken at
a meeting of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Fourth Centenary Memorial Trust
which was chaired by Chief Minister Paraksh Singh Badal.
The "world-class
university" would be set up at Fatehgarh Sahib to impart hi-tech
quality education in collaboration with renowned educational
institutions across the globe.
Apart from intensive
work on Guru Granth Sahib studies, the university would focus on
imparting education in post-modern technologies such as Nano-technology,
Bio-Technology, Information Technology and Business Management
besides comparative study of different religions. These courses
would be introduced in the inaugural academic session next year
(2009-10).
Later, the
university would also house the faculties in Emerging Technologies,
Basic Sciences, Management, Social Sciences, Arts, Languages,
Engineering, Architecture, Law and Social Justice. Work would soon
commence on the construction of the Complex, Bains said.
SGPC is establishing
the university under Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Act.
The meeting was
attended by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, Punjab Advocate
General H.S. Mattewal, Sirhind MLA Didar Singh Bhatti, senior SGPC
members Dr Kiranjot Kaur and Sukhdev Singh Bhaur and former Punjabi
University vice-chancellor Dr Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia.
