Guru Nanak Darbar Tatt Khalsa Diwan Selangor,
Malaysia facing problems
WSN Network

Sikhs in Malaysia are facing a crisis with the devotees of Guru Nanak Darbar, Tatt Khalsa Diwan Selangor being victimized by Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur (Mayor) with new a problem, almost every day.

Sikhs in Kuala Lumpur have an outstanding problem with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (local council) for years regarding the main entrance to the Gurdwara. A night market is setup at the entrance which troubles the Sikhs who congregate at the Gurdwara for prayers, but the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur has not taken any action to solve it in-spite of many complaints since 2002.

This Gurdwara established in 1918 in the heart of the city, has now developed to a twelve million Ringgit complex.

As it is, the day market already causes congestion along Jalan Raja Alang as vehicles often double-park along this road and at the entrance to Guru Nanak Darbar Tatt Khalsa Diwan Selangor thus making the drive to the Gurdwara very uneasy and difficult.

The congregation has dwindled in numbers as it finds it very troublesome to reach the place of worship, some times taking longer to reach the final 100 meters to the Gurdwara entrance comparing to a 10km town drive. Like the saying "so near, yet so far". Many congregational members have had arguments with the market operators which have lead them to shy away from the Gurdwara.

Now, the entrance to Wisma Tatt Khalsa will be hindered. Dewan Bandaraya is changing the individual parking lots and pedestrian walkway into public toilets, a rubbish-dump and a police beat-base (or maybe more stalls). Now Wisma Tatt Khalsa and our favorite Gurdwara Sahib are being further victimized by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur. The construction, which has begun and now encroaching the front of it's complex, Wisma Tatt Khalsa not only poses problems for its members but will have an effect in it's programmes, both religious and cultural functions.

This abuse of power by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur as it is building toilets, rubbish-dump and police beat-base (right at the central front of Wisma Tatt Khalsa) on the main road of Jalan Raja Bot, finds the Sikhs of Kuala Lumpur agitating against this step by the local authorities and have invited Sikhs in the country and elsewhere to complain to the Prime Minister's office as well as to the local authorities.

The Gurdwara Sahib has written to DBKL to upgrade this road by removing the stalls and hawkers and convert the road (Jalan Raja Alang and Jalan Raja Bot) to one-way drive, but there has no response.

Guru Nanak Darbar is still the favourite place of worship for the Sikh community in Kuala Lumpur and all Sikhs are rallying together to write to the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office and to the Biro Pengaduan Awam, Jabatan Perdana Menteri.
