‘Genocide Remembrance March’ on
June 3 at Amritsar
WSN Network
Amritsar:
Unmoved by the "advice" of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh that
the Sikhs should forget 1984 'painful events', Dal Khalsa plans to
undertake a “Genocide Remembrance March” on the lanes and streets of
the holy city on June 3, the day when the attack on Darbar Sahib was
launched 25 years ago.
The march would
commence at Akal Takht where Ardas would be performed in the memory
of those who embraced martyrdom during the attack.
It is part of the
public programmes to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the army
assault code named “Operation Blue Star”.
The president of
the organization Harchranjit Singh Dhami while addressing the press
conference said "much water has flown down the rivers of
Punjab since 1984. There was a change in political
leadership with some Sikhs at the helm of affairs both at centre and
the state. This however has not healed our wounds of June 84."
"Wounds are still
simmering, even after 25 years. Especially the wounds, which have
been left to neglect", said Mr Dhami. He ridicules those Sikhs who
in connivance with the Indian Union were attempting to erase this
period from the public memory.
Criticizing Dr
Manmohan Singh for advocating the Sikhs to forget the 1984 events,
the head of the radical Sikh body said “Sikhs will never forget the
brutality of the state nor the supreme sacrifices made by around 300
fearless Sikhs who fought till their last breath to defend the
sanctity of the holiest shrine”.
Flanked by party
General Secretary Dr Manjinder Singh and secretary for political
affairs Kanwar Pal Singh, Mr Dhami said the sacrifice of the June
1984 martyrs would never be allowed to go in vain.
He said after
paying homage to Sikh martyrs at Akal Takht, the delegation of the
Panthic bodies will meet the SGPC officials to remind them of the
resolution adopted by executive committee of the institution in 2003
pledging to build a memorial in memory of the 1984 martyrs within
the Darbar Sahib complex. He said members of the organization would
also take part on the concluding function to be held on June 6 at
Akal Takht.
Prominent amongst
those who were present in the meeting were Baldev Singh Ajnala,
Kulwant Singh, Gurdeep Singh Kalkat, Dr Arpal Singh, Shinderpal
Singh, Gurbhej Singh and Ranbir Singh, president of the Sikh Youth
of Punjab.
