12 Dera followers arrested for rioting

Austria police identify assailant

VIENNA: The Vienna police has disclosed the identities of five of the six assailants who attacked Dera Sachkhand Ballan head Sant Niranjan Dass and his deputy Sant Rama Nand on Sunday. The five names given are Sukhwinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Hardeep Singh, Tarsem Singh and Satwinder Singh. Three of them were asylum seekers.

Some are local residents associated with the Sikh gurdwara in Vienna’s district No. 21. Details are very sketchy and have many holes. Some Sikhs living in Austria have dissociated from the attack and circulated an open letter denouncing the incident in the local media.

Jalandhar: Police has arrested 12 Dera Sachkhand Ballan followers for ransacking and setting afire a portion of a UCO Bank branch,ATMs, petrol pumps, shops and liquor vends at Adampur, about 15 km from here.

DSP (Rural) Manjit Singh said a mob of nearly 250 protesters targeted a major part of Adampur on Monday night. They barged into the UCO Bank branch and attempted to set it ablaze entirely, besides damaging computers and other equipment.
They also ransacked two petrol pumps and nearly 20 shops, and set afire two ATMs and tried to damage police vehicles.

A case under Sections 435,436, 427, 379, 380, 188, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered against them. The accused were later produced before the Duty Magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days. DSP Manjit Singh said the rest of the accused had been identified and raids were being conducted to nab them.
