Gurdwara Offers $10,000 in Scholarships

Fremont:
To recognize and celebrate the outstanding leadership, scholarship,
and character of Sikh youths, Fremont Gurdwara has established an
annual scholarship fund. California college-bound, high school
seniors are eligible for scholarships that range from $500 to $1000,
for a total of $10,000.
The money can be
used by the recipient for college expenses at any post secondary
institution.

A free information session focussing on college admissions will
be organized at Fremont Gurdwara Sahib for Sikh parents and
students on February 20 Saturday from 5p.m. - 8p.m. A former UC
Berkeley admissions officer, Sylvia Juarez, will share her first
hand insight into the college admissions process, and she will
discuss what makes one a successful applicant for a college,
specifically the University of California.
Current middle and high school students and their parents are
highly encouraged to attend this free event! Information on
college admissions will be provided both in Punjabi and English.
Presenters will also answer any personal questions that parents
or students may have regarding high school and college education

Interested
students should apply by February 11, 2010 deadline. Applicants are
required to submit a minimum of one letter of recommendation or up
to two. Each recommendation should be from individual(s) who are
knowledgeable about your academic ability and can personally provide
insight into your personal characteristics, achievements,
motivation, and potential. Recommenders should email their letters
of recommendation by the deadline to fgscholarship@gmail.com. A
selection committee of highly qualified people has been organized to
select the scholarship recipients.
Bhai Harjot
Singh Khalsa, President of Fremont Gurdwara Sahib, hopes to set an
example for other Gurughars interested in recognizing Sikh youth. He
further said money for these scholarships was saved by volunteers
doing the free rauls of Sukhmani Sahib at Gurdwara Sahib during the
