Nanakshahi: Splitting the community
WSN Network

SACRAMENTO: Management committees of gurdwaras in Sacramento area met to discuss Nanakshahi Calendar on January 24, 2010, and strongly advocated that they will follow the 2003 version that carried the stamp of Akal Takht and SGPC, but there were exceptions.

Gurdwara Sachkhand in Roseville and Sacramento Sikh Society with its Gurdwara on Bradshaw Road said they will follow the established Nanakshahi Calendar of 2003. Ironically, the host Committee of West Sacramento and Capital Sikh Center in Antelope were in favor of the changes, but without even knowing what changes have been made. Many felt that there was a need to get to know, investigate and question what is basically being imposed on the Sikhs.

Without reaching any consensus and with clear opposition from Gurduara Sachkhand and Sacramento Sikh society to accept the changes, the meeting adjourned with words to the effect that any committee that wishes to contact Akal Takhat should do so on its own.
