Mann attacks Amarinder, gets
into scuffle, then talks Khalistan
WSN Network
THIKRIWALA (BARNALA):
In a rather amusing juxtaposition, some colorful activities of
former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and the choice of a few
colorful words by maverick Simranjit Singh Mann were enough to make
the situation explosive at a commemorative function organised to
mark the 76th death anniversary of Sewa Singh Thikriwala.
Mann and
Congress leaders almost came to blows on the stage after the Akali
leader passed derogatory remarks about Amarinder's dalliance with a
Pakistani woman.
Infuriated,
former Congress MLA Arvind Khanna and party leader Surinder Kaur
Balian asked Mann to stop his diatribe. They were backed by Congress
MLAs Harchand Kaur and Kewal Singh Dhillon. But as Mann carried on,
Khanna and he, shoving each other, nearly came to blows. Cornered,
Mann started raising slogans in favour of `Khalistan'.
On his part,
Khanna accused Mann of amassing funds to promote the Khalistan
movement. Mann had alleged that Capt Amarinder was "smuggling women
from Pakistan to enjoy his imperialistic lifestyle". He went on to
praise Sonia Gandhi, whom he described as idealistic and a woman of
high stature and said she will not tolerate such behaviour by
Amarinder. The police rounded up Mann, and let him off later.
