Punjab Di: Mehfil-e-Sartaaj
WSN Network
The
California’s first (San Francisco Bay Area) show of Dr. Satinder
Sartaaj will be held on April 3, Saturday from 6:30 pm
onwards at San Jose Performing Arts Center (408) 792-4145 located at
255 S Almaden Blvd, San Jose, CA 95113.
The show is
being presented by Dr. Harmesh Kumar, president, South Asian
Behavioural Health (SABH) Foundation Inc, to raise funds to build
first South Asian Residential Care Facility for the elderly in the
San Francisco Bay Area.
Dr. Kumar
reported that being a psychologist for over 26 years, he found the
first organic person, who writes and sings his own poetry which
soothes common people who suffer from so many existential anxieties
of modern impersonal world, where relations are becoming very
artificial and virtual. Dr. Sartaaj hails from Hoshiarpur, completed
his Master’s in music from
Government
College there and doctorate in Persian music and Sufism from
Panjab
University, Chandigarh.
Dr. Kumar also
happens to be from Hoshiarpur. He later completed his Ph.D. in
clinical neuropsychology from PGIMER Chandigarh.
Dr. Sartaaj has
really touched people’s souls and brought true smiles on their faces
with his poetry and music. Dr. Kumar said his music is like a
therapy and that is why he got involved with his show and wants to
make every Punjabi proud while starting a first Residential Facility
for elderly as his parents live with him and he sees the struggles
of other South Asians who are trying to juggle the perplexed and
demanding life styles in Western world.
This kind of
life is also spreading in
India
especially in the urban areas where small and expensive living
arrangements have led to disintegration of joint family systems and
giving birth to more nuclear families. It is poets and musicians
like Dr. Sartaaj who are playing a real positive and constructive
roles in keeping people connected emotionally and spiritually, thus
preventing the emotional break up of individuals especially in
Western world.
