Islam defines and decrees terror
WSN Bureau
Facing flak from
the media and tired of regular and rigorous stereotyping of Muslims
in the media by the police and the state machinery, Muslim
organizations and clerics gathered under the aegis of the Deoband
Seminary in Uttar Pradesh formally defining terrorism as killing of
innocent people and declaring all such acts as un-Islamic while at
the same time chastising the Indian government for hounding Muslims
every now and then. Accusing the government for prejudicial
targeting of Muslims, the declaration said that the government was
soft towards Naxalites and unreasonably harsh to Muslims.
Darul Uloom
adopted a declaration which declaration which denounced all forms of
terrorism including state terrorism. The declaration elaborated
mentioned the role of the Indian state in discriminating against
Muslims and called upon the Indian government to take fresh measures
to stop the trend.
The consensus
reached by the assembly of more than 10,000 Muslims was a rare feat
considering that the gathering included people from various sects
and organizations. Close on the heels of this declaration, the
Ahmadiya sect today in Qadian also joined in declaring terrorism to
be antithetical to the tenets of Islam.
“We reject all
forms of terrorism. Terrorism is completely wrong and whoever
commits it, irrespective of his association to whatever religion,
community and class. Terrorism negates completely the teachings of
Islam as it is the faith of love and peace, and any terrorist
activity which targets innocent people directly contradicts Islam’s
concept of peace,” said Rector of Darul Uloom Maulana Marghoobur
Rahman.
The declaration
further cited Naxalites to reinforce its point: “The situation has
worsened as every Indian Muslim, particularly those associated with
madarsas are gripped by the fear of being framed by the police any
time while Naxalites (are) attacking police stations, looting arms
and ammunition (and) roaming freely with no effective and preventive
steps being taken by the government to check their acts of
terrorism.”
For more than
six hours, more than 40 speakers derided the government and
particularly the Indian intelligence agencies. Maulana Syed Salman
Nadvi, of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulema,
Lucknow,
said: “It is high time for Muslims of India to choose their ‘Amir’
and this conference should complete this task today itself”.
Islam is the
religion of mercy for all humanity, concluded the declaration
setting at rest all rumor-mongering about the contents of Islam.
