Young Sportsmen dominate meet

FREEMONT:
The Sikh Sports Association organized the Second Annual sports meet
at the
East Bay California State University grounds. Players from the Bay
area participated in a variety of sports including Ghol, Basketball,
Tennis, Football, Hockey and Kabbaddi.
The tournament
saw the participation of Agyapal Singh and Arvind Singh, who are
part of the Junior Olympic Team of the
United States.
The Junior Wrestling State champions Karambir Singh and Jagjeet
Singh also participated.
To witness the
players there were American politicians in the stands including some
assembly members.
The sports
festival was dominated by the popular Punjabi sport of Kabbaddi.
The final Kabbaddi match was played between the Bay Area United
Sports Club and the Sher-e-Punjab Sports Club. In a keenly contested
match, the Bay Area United Sports Club won the match by 5 and a half
points. With their hard work and play, the Bay area team not only
won the match, but also the hearts of the people watching the game.
The
Bay Area team included members of the Sandhu family and had the
support of the famous transporters –the Gakhal brothers. The
tournament had the support and patronization of Dilbagh Singh Sandhu,
Baljeet Singh Sanhu, Charanjeet Singh Sandhu and Surjeet Singh
Sandhu. All the teams and players were supported by leading
businessman Sukhjeet Singh Sandhu, Balyog Singh Sandhu, Bhinder
Sandhu, Kulwant Sandhu, the Amritsar Times and the World Sikhs
News. Raja Sweets, Makhan Singh Bains and Giani Ravinder Singh
provided delicious food to all participants and the audience which
was much appreciated by one and all. The dinner for the two team
was arranged by the Sandhu brothers.
