Chandigarh: Punjabi
University, Patiala, launched its website with an Encyclopaedia of
Sikhism and a CD of this historic document here on Monday.
Containing reliable information and knowledge about Sikh religion
and culture, philosophy and history, the encyclopaedia can be
accessed at www.punjabiuniversity.ac.in.
Launching the website, Punjab Governor J.F. Rodrigues, who is the
Chancellor of the University, suggested restructuring and
reorientation of the education system to encourage the youth to
achieve academic brilliance.
“It is our collective responsibility to provide them the
opportunities to develop qualities of debate and to demonstrate
their ability and determination for the evolution of new ideas,” he
said.
“Our emphasis must be to encourage our children to go to our roots,
rich traditions and heritage and develop their potential,
capabilities and capacities to contribute to Resurgent India.”
Emphasising the need for serious introspection and realising where
we have gone wrong, Gen. Rodrigues said, “we are a 5,000-year-old
civilisation with universities like Taxila and Nalanda and we must
make serious and sustained efforts to revive those glorious
traditions of education.”
