Bal Thackeray
arrested, released
WSN Network
Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Friday ‘arrested’ Shiv Sena chief Bal
Thackeray as a matter of procedure at his Bandra (E) residence,
Matoshree. He was released immediately on a bail of Rs 10,000.
The arrest was
symbolic in nature. Officials from the Kherwadi police station had
been directed by a court to serve a bailable warrant on Thackeray.
Senior inspector T R
Gire of the Kherwadi police station visited Matoshree around 2 pm to
execute the warrant. ‘‘Gire was accompanied by a team of policemen.
Thackeray was required to sign two copies, one of which will be sent
back to the court,’’ said zonal deputy commissioner R N Tadvi.
Thackeray paid Rs 10,000 after which he was set free on bail.
Thackeray faces a case for his inflammatory writings in ‘Saamna’,
the mouthpiece of the Sena. Lawyer and NCP activist Munna Tripathi
has filed the case. On Thursday, additional sessions judge S J Shah
gave the Mumbai police a deadline of 24 hours to execute the
bailable warrant against Thackeray.
