Sukhbir celebrated Gurpurab at
home, see who joined
WSN Network
NEW DELHI: While
reporting the great interest shown by members of provincial and
federal legislatures in Sikh festivals in many countries, the WSN
editors have often rued the fact that Indian political establishment
completely ignores such days. Often, we come across some inanely and
unimaginatively drafted form-statement of congratulations from the
PM or the President.
Even the Punjab
CM, Parkash Singh Badal, enjoys no reputation of a gurdwara going
practising Sikh. Neither is his son Sukhbir Singh badal, now
president of the Akali Dal, known for his religious leanings,
knowledge of Gurbani or scruplousness that comes from following the
core Sikh values.
But when Sukhbir
Badal finally, at the advice of his spin masters, decided to put on
some religious sheen and celebrated the gurpurab at home (not really
a great practice, by the way), look he called as "sangat".
While L K Advani
was sort of a guest of honour, so was his wife Kamla Advani.
Possibly Sukhbir might have become a fan after reading Advani's
narration of Sikh related events, including Operation Blue Star, in
his latest book.
And to rub some
salt into Sikh injuries, Sukhbir also invited that paragon of all
that to Sukhbir could seem like virtue: Maninderjit Singh Bitta.
This when the
Sikh community is fighting to get released from the death row Prof
Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar. Bitta has so often presented false
testimonies in court cases against several Sikhs that no one in his
right mind could possibly afford to be even seen besides him.
He is an out
and out prop of the intelligence agencies, and there is hardly a
person engaged with politics who does not know his reality.
