New gurdwara likely to get a
green light

PRESTON: A new
Sikh gurdwara in Deepdale plans may go ahead notwithstanding some
concerns that the surrounding streets will be choked with cars. Such
objections have now become the norm but are often cast aside. A
bunch of residents have urged Preston Council not to allow the
gurdwara and community centre in Isherwood Street but members of the
Sri Guru Ajan Dev Gurdwara have said they want to use the former
cycle storage warehouse as a centre for worship for up to 80 people.
They say they
have spent more than six months working to satisfy planning
officers.
Gulab Singh,
president of the gurdwara, said: "We've supplied all the evidence
the council officers have asked for. We're just waiting for the
planning committee to come up with their deliberations. We've just
got to wait and see."
A report
prepared by Preston Council's planning department said many of the
members "will be able to walk to the site" as they already live in
the Deepdale community. Preston Council's planning committee will
make a decision on the application following a site visit.
