Persecution of Bibi Ranjit Kaur
continues

PUNJAB:
Following her arrest, persecution of Bibi Ranjit Kaur, whom the
police tried to implicate in the Shingar cinema bomb blasts, is
still on. Police has termed her a conspirator in the Shingar blasts
and a supporter of the Babbar Khalsa militant organization. The
38-year-old Bibi Ranjit Kaur, was arrested a few days back from her
house in village Khamano of Fatehgarh Sahib district by the Ludhiana
Police. She is an amritdhari Gursikh and runs a small tailoring
booth in her village to feed her family. It seems the arrest of Bibi
Ranjit Kaur has surprised everyone in her village. She enjoys the
reputation of being a kindly personand neighbours pooh-poohed
police's claim that she received foreign aid to fund terrorism in
the state. Ranjit Kaur has denied all allegations. She has no past
criminal record, and is said to be have torture at the hands of the
police. Her remand was to end on June 10 but she had to be
transferred to the Civil Hospital. Seems like she could not last
through the so called ‘interrogation sessions’.
In the past too,
the police have picked up Sikh women and fabricated false cases.
Three years ago, a Sikh woman named Bibi Manjot Kaur was arrested
from her residence in
Chandigarh for
allegedly having associations with Jagtar Singh Hawara but after
strong pressure from several Panthic organizations, the Police had
to release her as they failed to present any credible evidence
against her.
