Fremont Gurdwara annual report
ushers transparency
WSN Network
FREMONT: The management committee of Fremont Gurdwara has released the annual
report for the year 2008 that covers the period from March 1, 2008
to December 31, 2008. The report is an effort at inducing high
levels of transparency and details not just the day to day
activities but also all expenditure etc.
It also details the efforts of the land committee under the
leadership of Dr Jagtar Singh Sandhu and explains how the heavy
expenditure that was expected on account of the hillside land is
sought to be reduced. Also, details have been provided of the
efforts at coordinating the entire exercise with the city
authorities.
The report also mentions the hundreds of sponsorships made by
the previous committee and the nearly 25 green cards that were
applied for. The report shows how the new committee has paid off
nearly $ 5 lakh in just eight months.
Compared to the $2.60 lakh dished out by the previous panel,
merely $ 4,000 were shown while the expenditure on advertisements
was $ 1.05 lakh by the previous committee, a figure that stands at
nil in the current committee's tenure so far. Many members of the
sangat expressed resentment at the fact that the previous committee
spent the sangat's money on advertisements that brought no profit.
The report also shows the expenditure on outside by the
previous panel at $ 1.10 lakh while the new panel has not spent a
single penny on this account. All activities of the guru ghar, the
kirtan darbars, the gatka camps, all kind of Paths and langars have
been explained in detail in the report
Many members of the sangat appreciated the report saying it
was the first venture of its kind at any gurdwara where those
managing the shrine have made themselves accountable for not just
the money but also every single day and activity that was or was not
undertaken at the gurdwara. Thus, this is a historical document in
that sense.
