Seechewal launches desilting of
riverbed
WSN Bureau
Jalandhar:
Continuing with his mission, Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal has
launched ‘kar sewa” to clean up and desilt the Sutlej riverbed near
Giddarpindi village, where a breach had led to massive flooding a
month ago.
The de-silting
is aimed at ensuring proper flow through the area. “Around 50
villages have agreed to participate in the project, which will
reduce pressure on the banks, and thus prevent breaches,” Baba
Seechewal said.
He said
untreated water and heavy metals discharged by Jalandhar industry
were getting deposited on the base, which prevented groundwater
recharge. Work began with “ardas” and nearly 300 villagers from
Giddarpindi, Darewal, Sarowal, Yusufwal, Bharoana and Kutbewal vil
lages got down to work.
